Recorded in London and Melbourne with Stock Aitken & Waterman in the spring of '88, Kylie's eponymous debut album was released in July of that year and entered both the UK and Australian charts at No.2. Never before has a debut album by a female artist entered so high on either country's charts!
In the UK Kylie became the youngest female and first Australian artist ever to top the album chart, reaching the summit on two separate occasions and remaining there for a staggering 8 weeks in total.
'Kylie' quickly established itself as the biggest selling album of the year with over 1.8 millions copies sold. The album scored Top 10 placings throughout Europe and Asia and achieved Gold status in the US where 'The Loco-motion' reached No.3 on the Billboard chart.
In Australia the album was repackaged as 'The Kylie Collection' and featured bonus mixes of the singles. To date, 'Kylie' has sold almost 6 million copies worldwide.
