Recorded in London in October 1987,
‘I Should Be So Lucky’ marked the beginning of Kylie’s
musical partnership with Stock Aitken & Waterman. The song debuted
at a lowly No. 90 on the 9th January before soaring up the charts
in the weeks that followed. ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ set
the record in the U.K. as the first single for over 10 years to
stay at No.1 for five weeks, and went on to become one of the biggest
selling singles of the year with sales of over 675,000. Kylie became
the first artist ever to hold simultaneous No.1’s in Australia
and Britain and topped the charts in Germany (3 weeks), Finland,
Israel, Japan, Switzerland, and Hong Kong, as well achieving top
five positions in Austria, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Spain, Italy,
Greece, France and New Zealand. In the U.S, ‘I Should Be So
Lucky’ peaked at No.28 giving Kylie her first Top 40 hit stateside. |
